Bordalo

Arthur Bordalo was born in Lisbon and signs as Bordalo II in homage to his grandfather, the painter Real Bordalo, who sparked his passion for colour when he was a child, a fascination that he later developed as a graffiti artist in his teenage years. For eight years, Bordalo II studied painting at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts. He did not complete his degree, but as he explains, this period allowed him to become familiar with other disciplines, such as sculpture and ceramics, and to experiment with different materials, which ended up shaping his career.

Bordalo II chose the public space to express his work, which integrates colour and scale in different formats. Currently, he is focusing his artistic work on criticising the materialistic society which he considers himself to be a part of. The artist makes use of waste and material found in skips to create wild animals to condemn rampant consumption and human destruction of the planet. Turning rubbish into his creative material is in itself a radical manifesto, which is reflected in his works all over the world.
